At 18:50 March 30th , 2023 BJT, Long March-2D (LM-2D) launch vehicle successfully launched PIESAT-1-A-01 and PIESAT-1-B-01~03 satellites from Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center (TSLC).
China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC), a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science & Technology Corporation (CASC), provided the launch services in this mission. This is also the second program between CGWIC and GalaxySpace, whose 7 satellites had been successfully launched by CGWIC on March 5th , 2022.
PIESAT-1-A-01 and PIESAT-1-B-01~03 satellites are owned by PIESAT, and designed & manufactured by GalaxySpace. The 4 satellites are all low-orbit synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites, and will be used for remote sensing observation and applications.
LM-2D launch vehicle is a liquid two-stage launcher designed and manufactured by Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST), also a subsidiary of CASC. The designed capacity of LM-2D is 1300kg for 700km sun synchronous orbit. This is the 75th launch of LM-2D.
CGWIC is a commercial organization authorized by Chinese government to provide commercial launch services, satellite systems and to carry out space technology cooperation. Under the guidance of CASC, CGWIC can provide fast, stable and reliable "one-stop" quality services to both international and domestic customers.
Since Long March launch vehicles entered the international market in 1990, CGWIC has completed 79 commercial launches for 72 international satellites and 74 domestic satellites. In addition, CGWIC has conducted 45 rideshare launch services sending 27 international payloads and 116 domestic payloads into orbits.
This launch marks the 469th flight of the Long March fleet.
