The Tiantong-01 satellite is launched with the Long March-3B carrier rocket at southwestern China's Xichang Satellite Launch Center on Aug. 6, 2016. The Tiantong-01 satellite is the first satellite of China's home-made satellite mobile telecom system, and a key part of the country's space information infrastructure.

The Tiantong-01 satellite and the LM-3B Launch Vehicle are designed & manufactured by China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) and China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT). This launch mission is the 36th flight of LM-3B launch vehicle. It marks the 232th flight of the entire Long March family.
